Great to God

Scripture References: Jonah 3:1-10

From Series: "GOD of a Second Chance"

Wouldn't it be great if God simply told us what to do, if his will for us were unmistakably clear? Jonah didn't think so. When God commands Jonah to arise and go to Nineveh, Jonah rises—but goes the other way, fleeing from the presence of the Lord. Or, should we say, he attempts to flee from the presence of the Lord, for in Jonah’s case, it seems, the Lord won’t take no for an answer. What part of Jonah, the reluctant prophet, resides in us? Will we rise and go to Nineveh, so to speak, in obedience to the Lord, or will we too go the other way, fleeing from the presence of the Lord? What are we inclined to say no to? What are we inclined to say yes to? Can we finally see, whatever our journeys, that the Lord wants to shape us for his purposes and that he has our best interests in mind? These are some of the questions we will explore as we dive into the Book of Jonah. Finally, we will see how Jesus echoes and fulfills the Jonah story in the Book of Matthew.
