LEADERSHIP
Our view of leadership at PBC is one of co-laboring. We start with submission to the Lordship of Jesus and the unifying work of the Holy Spirit. Each leader here at PBC (elder, pastor, deacon, and support staff) ministers to the church body by proclaiming the power of the Gospel in every circumstance. Our utmost desire is to give God the glory, to train up new disciples, and to minister to the whole church with faithfulness.
PBC affirms the spiritual giftedness of both women and men. After a year studying the topic of women in ministry, the elders have prepared a Q&A regarding our practice.

Since joining the Recovery Ministry at PBC about fourteen years ago, God has completely transformed my broken life, with the help and support of the Recovery Ministry and many of the men and women of PBC. I have been involved in many aspects of the ministry since. God raised me up to be the director of the ministry, starting in February of 2108. God has also gifted me with my wonderful wife Lucy, and we have been happily married since 2012. We both love to serve the Lord by serving others in many different ways! I love being part of the PBC team to love, lift up, and equip God’s people!

I received my initial training in pastoral counseling during the PBC internship program. Following ten years of lay counseling at PBC, I completed a doctorate in clinical psychology 1992 and soon joined the PBC staff.
My husband and I married in 1964. Our two adult children, their spouses, and our teenage grandchildren all richly gift our lives.
As Pastor of Counseling, I focus on training others to counsel more effectively. To that end, I disciple lay counselors individually and in small groups, teach classes, speak at retreats and seminars, and have an extensive writing ministry with material available on my website, biblegrapes.com and in my book, Grappling with Your Identity. A second book, Sex & Worship, is nearing completion.

Immediately upon coming out to the Bay Area from Texas for college in 1995, I decided that I never wanted to leave. PBC became my church home two weeks later. After getting a degree in engineering, I worked in software development for seven years before going to seminary. In 2007 I became a pastor PBC and have served as an elder since 2014. My wife Rachel and I have five children: three born to us and two adopted. Life is crazy and challenging and fun and full of God's grace. Check out my blog exploring technology and theology at allthingsnew.tech.

I had the privilege of joining staff in 2021 after having been a part of PBC since the mid 90s. I have a passion for supporting spiritual growth in the challenging environment of the Bay Area across all ages and stages of life.
My prayer is that God would be glorified in the Bay Area, that people would seek Him and find Him, and that His followers would grow in knowing Him, understanding Him, and walking with Him in their daily lives.

I've had the privilege of serving at PBC since 2007. My wonderful husband, Jeff, and I live in East Palo Alto and enjoy time with our two daughters.
Born and raised here in the Bay Area, I attended UC Santa Cruz and Western Seminary. My teen years were rough, and I know first hand how challenging Middle School and High School can be. Those hard years drove me to always be involved with helping people. I became a believer a few days shy of turning 17 when my world around me was crumbling. God proved Himself to be the only constant, and filled me with joy and gratitude I never had before. As God entered my life with such unbelievable love, I too hope that others experience a love that will not fail them.
