CS Lewis was a stalwart proponent of the gospel, and his writings were a wonderful counterpoint to ‘Christian’ proclamations rooted in fear and anger. His books and essays cover a wide range of Christian ideas, but a recurring theme of discovery—of deeper truth, lost greatness, and lasting beauty—pervades them all. We hope this class will offer joyful surprises for those newly encountering Lewis and those who have a long and grateful acquaintance with his work. Themes to be considered include:
- Bedrock morality
- Listening to our longings
- The gifts of God’s good creation
- The wiles of the devil
- True friendship
- Shadowlands and Aslan’s country
