Who Is Jedidiah?
Our high school ministry is called Jedidiah. The name is taken from the story of David and Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11:1-12:25. In the story, King David, the man after God’s own heart, sleeps with another man’s wife and she becomes pregnant with his child. He has the man killed to cover up his sin. The baby dies shortly after birth, and Bathsheba mourns for her lost child. After the period of mourning, David lays with Bathsheba again and they give birth to a son and name him Solomon. God, however, gives him a special name as a message of forgiveness and redemption to David. He calls him Jedidiah, which means loved by God. In the high school ministry at PBC we want high school students to know that whatever they may have done, said, thought, and no matter where they may have been, they are called Jedidiah- they are loved by God. (Ephesians 3:17-19) We want them to experience God’s love in their lives and, because of that love, to love God from the core of their hearts, the depths of their souls, the entirety of their minds, and the fullness of their might, and love others in the mess of life. (Mark 12:29-31)
I AM Jedidiah.
