I moved to Los Altos while in elementary school and spent my early years in the Greek Orthodox Church. I first began attending PBC Body Life services as a high school freshman in 1968. From the early 70's through early 80's I went off to college, law school and first job. My wife, Debbie, and I met at Central Peninsula Church in the early 80's. In 1984 we were married and I began practicing law in Palo Alto. In 1985 Debbie and I moved to Mountain View and again began worhsiping at PBC. Debbie and I have two children, Alex and Chrisy, who are both in college. I enjoy studying the scriptures, skiing, hiking and bicycle riding.
As I sought to discover His Spiritual gifts and serve the body, two Bible verses have spoken prominently to me.
"In the church I desire to speak five words with my mind, that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue." 1 Corinthians 14:19
""Trust in the Lord and do good, dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness." Psalms 37:3
My ministry passion for this season at PBC involves encouraging the members of the body to diligently search the Scriptures for the enduring elements of God's design for the life of faith in the body, rather than adopting the attitudes of our culture or the most recent trends in evangelical circles. My prayer for the body at PBC is that all would:
*Grasp the revolutionary call of the "new covenant" to surrender to Jesus, and trust that the power of God is at work in believers as they are available for God's use (see Romans 8:9-16, 2 Corinthians 4, Colossians 1:26-27, Galatians 2:20, Ephesians 3:17.
*Take seriously the promise that each believer has been given a Spiritual gift from God for the service of the body, and set out on an adventure to find God's intended form of service (see Romans 12:1-11, 1 Corinthians 12:1-31, Ephesians 4:4-16, 1 Peter 4:10-11).
*Look past the prevailing culture of on-demand consumerism and reliance on professional clergy, and, instead, embrace the "ministry of the saints", recognizing that the pastors and elders of PBC have been called by God to "equip the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ." (Ephesians 4:11-13), and joyfully accept the work of service to one another rather than expecting to be served as consumers of church related services for the sake of personal peace and fulfillment.
