Growing up in a rural community in Montana, I was blessed with Christian parents and a church which emphasized Biblical teaching. After an undergraduate degree at Wheaton College, I spent a few years as a naval officer. Mary Margaret and I were married in southern California and moved to Palo Alto where I attended graduate school at Stanford and we began fellowshipping at PBC. Most of my career was in finance with a global computer company and after several job relocations, we returned to this area. Both of our daughters, Julia Taylor (husband Joe) and Valerie Cairns (husband Jim) and their families are also active at PBC. Mary Margaret and I enjoy traveling together, gardening and spending time with our grandchildren. I also serve on boards of other Christian organization, like to read and maintain some technology skills.

    Biblical Passage for Consideration

Many Scripture passages have been meaningful and helpful to me during different seasons and events of life. I appreciate the unique power and authority of God's Word and the truth of 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness that the messenger (man) of God may be competent, equipped for every good work."

A verse which is particularly significant for me is 1 John 4:19 "We love because He (God) first loved us." It is very reassuring that love, such an important element of life has originated with our Father God, has been demonstrated by the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus on the cross and is enabled by the indwelling Holy Spirit.

    Ministry Passion

My prayer is that PBC would be a community of God's people which will fulfill the challenge of 1 Peter 2:9 "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." The church is described using various illustrations in the New Testament, including as a household or family (e.g. Ephesians 2:19, Hebrews 2:10-13) and as a physical body (e.g. 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4), relationships which require a significant degree of mutual support and interdependency.
