I was born and raised here on the Peninsula in Redwood City. Both of my parents were born in San Francisco, though they were the only ones in each of their families to be born in America. I did not come to faith in Christ until I was in my late teens. A high school teacher shared that she thought God was "wooing me"Â (her words exactly), and the idea that God might be real and might be interested in me caused me to seek out a personal relationship with Him. Once I knew God was real, I wanted everyone else to know as well. That desire has stayed with me even to this day. I started attending PBC in 1985.
Following the break up of my 15-year marriage, I found myself rebuilding my life in many ways. As part of that process, I was invited to join the PBC Intern program. I had always loved to study the Bible and wanted to be better equipped to teach and share my faith. Each person had a ministry assignment, and mine was serving in the Jr. High Ministry. It turned out that I loved Jr. High students. Who knew! A short time later, I accepted the call as the Pastor to that ministry and served for six years. I felt led to begin a new ministry at PBC, which I called Community Life. I really wanted to see PBC become more integrated as a multi-generational church family. In 2007, I was asked to transition to be the Missions Pastor. I believe we are all involved in missions, and I really enjoy coming alongside and helping folks find the ways we can serve God with who we are, what we have and what we do.
My children are now adults, but raising them as a single mom helped me learn to depend on God for everything, and those lessons still serve me well. There are so many scriptures that I cherish, but Phil 4:12-13 is especially dear to me. “I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of contentment in every situation whether it be with plenty or want; for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.” It is all about Him, and He makes us able to do more than we ever think possible.
My children still live close by and I am very grateful to God for the adults they have become. My daughter Stephanie is on the Spiritual Life Staff at The Kings Academy in Sunnyvale, and my son works for an ambulance company in San Mateo while continuing to pursue his goal of being a firefighter. My hobbies include horseback riding, walking, travel, and dog training. I have a golden retriever named Chase and enjoy volunteering with the pet assisted therapy program for the Peninsula Humane Society.
