I grew up in Mountain View and came to Christ as a junior in high school through a church youth group. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in journalism from Pepperdine University, I worked for 11 years as a newspaper reporter and editor before responding to an overwhelming impulse to be a shepherd. I interned at Cole Community Church in Boise, Idaho, and began serving as a pastor at PBC in 1994. I met Karen at the church, and we were married in 2000. We have two girls, Christina and Bethany. I enjoy fly-fishing, golf, reading and writing.
"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." Luke 15:20. I could spend a lifetime with the parables of Luke 15.
My passions are to preach, teach and write in a way that reveals God so that we might worship Him and follow Jesus wherever He leads. Each passage in the Scriptures is a feast and a work of art waiting to be discovered and appreciated. I am compelled to search for the truth in the scriptures and pass it on to others. These passions surge at me daily. When all is said, done and written, I hope to leave behind a movement toward Christ in the hearts of people.
