Equipping
My delight - and pastoral responsibility - to equip others to minister effectively is expressed most directly in my discipleship groups and my training of interns. Both the discipleship groups and intern classes provide many opportunities for us to encourage, challenge, and nurture each other.
My discipleship groups (by invitation only) are intended to provide both individuals and couples the example and experience of coming alongside others with skill, wisdom, discernment, and love. As we study scripture (our current focus is on Exodus) we apply Biblical truth to the issues in our own lives and sort through how we can use what we learn as we interact with others. One of our particular joys is discovering the character of our unchanging God as He reveals Himself through His words and actions.
I have taught in the PBC intern program for a number of years. As part of that two-year program, every other Fall quarter I use the Genesis 1-11 text to teach our interns how to study Old Testament narrative. The interpretive skills they learn not only bring the text alive but also lead them to a rich (and often wonderfully surprising) understanding of the character of God. I also teach an intern class providing an overview of Biblical Counseling.
