Jesus and Koheleth both bear the title, son of David—a royal designation that means we should listen to them. Each begins his discourse with a powerful word: "blessed" and "meaningless." Though the contrast is striking, both of them puncture the delusion of self generated happiness. We need not despair—those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be satisfied.
