In these verses Peter helps us think well about our lives as sojourners. We should rejoice in suffering because it does the work of a refiner’s fire. The humble Christian has privileges denied to noble prophets and majestic angels. Righteous behavior makes sense because we are ‘obedient children’ and because the One who judges will do so impartially. Love in the family of God commends itself because unlike other human connections it transcends death.
