This section reiterates themes we have encountered before in this letter. In vs. 7-11 the apostle argues that the certainty (and nearness) of a world to come should shape our behavior. In vs. 12-19 we again are given lessons about suffering. Suffering should not come as a surprise (indeed rejection for righteousness is a badge of allegiance to Christ). Those who suffer as sinners are not the same as those who suffer for Jesus’ sake.
