Verse 10 begins a quotation from Psalm 34, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil . . . must turn from evil and do good; must seek peace and pursue it.” Though Peter has had much to say about hardship in this life (and glory in the world to come), he also has instruction for the present day. A well lived life will work towards harmony with our neighbors, a good conscience (v.16), and stability (sobriety, 4:2-4).
