Part of the reason that we observe the Sabbath is to remind us that God has prepared a place of ultimate rest for His people that they will enter at the end of time. This passage in Hebrews explains the existence of that rest through a detailed interpretation of Psalm 95. Even though the Promised Land was pictured as God’s rest, this psalm still talks about a future rest. The rest that is reserved for the people of God is that of living in the presence of God. Faith allows us to enjoy that rest and Sabbath practices that we observe now point us forward to give us hope for ultimate rest in the future.
