My name is Rolana Smith and I’ve worked in youth ministry since the summer of 2007. I was born and raised here in the Bay Area and graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in psychology. My teen years were rough at best, and I know first hand how challenging junior high and high school can be. Those hard years drove me to always be involved with helping people. This is one reason I love working with students and parents. Most teens have crises and often don’t know how God fits in their world. As God entered my life with such unbelievable love, I too hope that our students experience a love that will not fail them.
I became a believer a few days shy of turning 17 when my world around me was crumbling. God proved Himself to be the only constant, and filled me with joy and gratitude I never had before. I went to Chabot College, transferred to UC Santa Cruz, and graduated in 2007. I am also currently a part-time student at Western Seminary. I participated in PBC’s SLI program and Intern Program. My wonderful husband, Jeff, and I live in Mountain View and have three ferocious and furry additions: our cats Maggie, Ginny, and Zeus, who are terribly afraid of Angry Bird stuffed animals.
My favorite scripture often changes, but for now it is Psalm 18:19
“He brought me into a broad place; He rescued me because, He delighted in me.”
I love this because it demonstrates that one of God's reasons for rescuing us is His delight for us. It reminds me how cherished we are. That really blows me away...crazy!
