Serving God in Our MidstIf you are interested in getting involved in Children's Ministry, you can fill out a form on the Children's Ministry Volunteer Page.
The
vibrant life that is Peninsula Bible Church is the Spirit of God found in the
people of this place. It is often referred to as the "ministry of the
saints" when we, as Christians, use our gifts to bless one other and the
world around us. The Spirit of God is working through you as you join in the
life of the church, and each person has something to share, a gift to give.
This is an invitation to use your gifts. We gather every Sunday to worship God
and encourage each other to live lives of faith. If you have a gift that can
contribute in any of the following areas, fill out the form below or contact Jake
Dodson or Kathy Means.
Artists, Florists, and Carpenters for the Arts
Ministry
An informational lunch in the Fellowship Hall
on May 11 marks the beginning of a re-imagined Arts Ministry. This new
approach, led by Music and Arts Pastor Jake Dodson, will emphasize two aspects of
the ministry at once to approach a fuller vision and practice of what it means
to be an artist and follower
of Jesus.
1.
The first
emphasis will be a ministry by artists to the entire congregation. It will
entail the design and creation of special artistic projects and installations
to augment and enhance the worship of the whole congregation.
2.
The second
emphasis will be a ministry to artists, by artists. Starting with Creative Day
on May 31—a Saturday where artists of any medium, from sketching to
painting to woodworking to sculpting, will gather for fellowship and
encouragement—we will together explore a theme from scripture. We will
then spend the morning creating art born out of that exploration of scripture.
Projection/Slide Techs
Though the actual Slide Techs in this ministry are
"behind-the-scenes," so to speak, the work they do is front and
center in the worship services. In our culture that communicates so much
through visuals and images, this ministry is vital to the conveyance of ideas
and plays a main role in Sunday services. We need a person to operate the
computer and advance the slides during our times of worship. The commitment is
for one Sunday a month.
Sound Techs and Sermon Recorders
The Sound
Tech is both the "invisible band member" and the
person bridging the gap between any speaker and the ears of the congregation.
The current volunteer staff are a dedicated group of
both men and women who love serving God by wrestling with technology and
electronics. They enable the Word of God to be heard clearly, both in spoken
word and in song. The training is thorough and the commitment is flexible but
is usually for one Sunday a month.
Every Sunday the sermons are recorded live in
both the 8:30 and 11:15 service. Immediately following the teaching, the Sermon Recorder
takes the recording and duplicates the CD. Many people purchase a CD following
the service to take the message to friends and family unable to attend or to
listen again to what was preached. The commitment is flexible.
Ushers
Fifteen minutes before each service, a team of ushers meet to finalize how they will
serve the congregation in the service. Each week they are entrusted with
passing the offering baskets, and they are occasionally also called upon to
pass communion trays, carry microphones around the auditorium for times of
sharing, or assist less mobile individuals with seating. The commitment is
flexible and for only one of the two services.
Communion Preparers
The clear calling Jesus gives us in the Bible,
to remember him whenever we share in communion, is something we take seriously
at PBC and is a part of our worship services every three weeks. The Communion Preparers
bless the whole congregation by breaking the cracker bread and filling the cups
with juice before the 8:30 service. The commitment is flexible.
Hospitality and "Get-Thee-to-a-Luncheon"
Servers
Anytime you enjoy any food, coffee, tea, or
find yourself with a napkin at hand when you need one, you have been served by
someone offering some hospitality.
We are all called in scripture to be hospitable to those we encounter; these
servants do so for the body on Sunday mornings.
Each month, from September through May, we have
the great joy of gathering for a meal. To put it plainly, we hang out and enjoy
good food together. The lunch food is prepared by a whole team of "Get-Thee-to-a-Luncheon"
Servers with caring hearts and hands and skills in the
kitchen. If you enjoy seeing a big group of people having lively conversation
and enjoying each other over the food you've helped to make, join this team. The commitment in flexible.
Greeters
This ministry is all about connecting with
people. PBC is a church often visited by guests, and by standing in an area
that many people pass through, a person serving in the Greeting ministry
creates one of the first impressions a visitor will have of our church. If you
like to help people find out more about the church, guide newcomers to the
classes they might be trying to find, or simply saying hello to a lot of folks,
this is a terrific place for you to serve. The commitment is flexible.
